Welcome to the Year 2 web page. We are really excited to be starting another year full of fun learning with your child! We have missed the children so much and look forward to welcoming them back on Tuesday 25th August. It has been a challenging and uncertain few months since we closed in March. Your child will be coming into a warm, supportive and caring environment where we will have a focus on emotional well being, so that your child feels safe, secure and cared for. We will also be exploring, learning and investigating through play, the outdoors and in the classroom. We are going to stay active, strong and happy throughout Year 2, developing our social skills and inquisitive, enquiring minds.
We very much look forward to working with you all in the year ahead.
Mr Elwood, Mrs McIntyre, Ms Dunlop, Ms Millar, Ms Loughrey & Mrs Watton.

I love all of the fun things we do in school, but if I had to choose favourites they would be stories, Outdoor Classroom and making things. I have three adventurous boys and we love to go camping in Scotland. I like walks, the beach, baking and decorating yummy cakes, watching home renovation programmes and the colours blue and green. |

year 2 information for the year ahead
Snack Time
A healthy snack will be provided for your child at a cost of £2.50 per week. The price for the first term will be £22.50. This payment should be made on the School Money App (payments must be cashless due to CO-VID restrictions). https://login.eduspot.co.uk/public/portal/parent/?app=schoolmoney&source=website&version=20190314 Please email Jane in the school office if you have forgotten your login details: [email protected] |
What will your child need?
Please see below for a list of resources your child will need for Year 2. Please send a waterproof coat every day and hats and gloves in the winter as we will be outside daily. Please ensure all of your child’s belongings are named. |
Homework
Homework is an extension of work carried out in class. Activities will be set on a Monday for the week and folders should be returned on a Thursday to be marked. It will include reading, spellings and a written homework – similar to the format in Year 1.
Reading: Reading will be set Monday to Friday. We use the ‘Dandelion’ phonics books reading scheme which you will be familiar with from Year 1. Initially, the Dandelion books will be sent out on Seesaw as we did during school closure as they cannot be sent home as yet due to CO-VID restrictions. In Year 2 we will also be using the ‘Bug Club’ reading scheme. This is a fantastic online scheme which your child will receive login details for. Your child will be assigned a book each week on Bug Club.
Spellings: Spellings will be set Monday to Wednesday and revision on Thursday for a short Friday spelling test (tests will not start until later in the year). Use whatever method works for your child to help them learn their spellings. We recommend ‘look-say-cover-write-check’ – look at the word, say it, cover the word, write it and then check!
Study Ladder: Study Ladder will be used to support or extend learning at home. More details will follow.
Homework should take no longer than 15 minutes. If your child is really struggling with a particular homework, please let us know and we can help 😊.
